Gold Coins of the American Eagle Series

Gold Coins of the American Eagle Series

Gold Coins Release of American Eagles

Gold coins will become available on March 1, 2018.  The United States Mint is set to release the gold coins of the American Eagle series.  The four proof gold coins will soon be available.  The March, 2018, gold release includes all four sizes of the proof gold American Eagle, the one-ounce, the half-ounce, the quarter-ounce and the tenth-ounce sizes.

The gold American Eagle is minted in 22-karat, 0.9167 purity, gold.  This is the highly desirable gold series of the United States.  The coins match the Sovereign of the Royal Mint is purity.

Each of the coins will bear the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.

The denominations of the coins are $50, $25, $10, and $5, respectively.

The coins will be available separately, or as a set of all four gold coins.

Gold Coins Product Limits

The mintage for these coins is not specified, but ordering limits and product limits are in existence.  The order limit is one coin per household, and is there for each size individual coin.  There is also a one-coin order limit per household for the four-coin set.

The product limit for the four-coin set is eighteen thousand.  The product limit for the popular one-ounce coin is set at twenty-five thousand.  The half-ounce and the quarter-ounce sizes each have product limits set at seven thousand one hundred.  The tenth-ounce gold coin, popular because of its affordability, has a product limit of twenty-two thousand pieces.

These coins are proof coins, and the limits do not apply to the uncirculated coins.  The one-ounce uncirculated gold American Eagle coin is to be released in the summer.

Cases and Certificates

The four-coin set of the gold coins in the American Eagle series will come in a newly designed burgundy velvet, satin-lined presentation case.  This year the four coins will be lined up in the long, narrow case, unlike the case used in 2017 where the coins were aligned in a diamond shape.  The four-coin set will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The problem with a set is that it is more difficult to split up should the need or desire occur to sell the coins.  The single case cannot go with four different individual coins, nor can the certificate of authenticity.  The set is designed to be kept together as a singular unit.

The individual coins also come with burgundy, velvet, satin lined presentation cases, and are accompanied by individual certificates of authenticity.

Historically, a small savings can result from buying the four-coin set, and if the plan is to have the coins sent out for grading that is the better option.
