Endangered Animal Cutout Canadian Coin Series

Endangered Animal Cutout Canadian Coin Series

One significant series of Canadian coins is the Endangered Animal Cutout Canadian Coin Series is uniquely designed for impact.  The focus of the series is to bring attention to the endangered animals that are iconic to Canada.  Once any of these animals goes extinct, if that should happen, Canada would lose one of the symbols of a great nation.

These coins are a way of making the world aware of disappearing animals, in particular those significant to Canada.  Canada is a beautiful country with nature being one of the most significant reasons why this is so.  It begins with the terrain, from the lakes in the east to the Canadian Rockies in the west.  This varied, yet beautiful, terrain is home to many animals that inhabit the north.

Some animals are in danger of becoming extinct.  Once they are gone they will not be seen again.  Such a loss would be tragic to Canada, and the Royal Canadian Mint has made awareness of this danger a focus of one of its silver coin series.

Also, adding to the desirability of each coin is the fact that the subject matter is an animal.  Indeed, an animal coin strikes interest easily.  AAnd, the animals chosen are of particular desirability to collectors of Canadian coins.

Impactful Coin Designs

Art, including the art found on coins, is often filled with a message, and that message can be more impactful if there is a powerful way of really getting the message across.  These coins really make the point.

The design of each the endangered Animal Cutout Canadian coin includes a cutout.  The Canadian coins have cutouts that are the silhouette of the endangered animal.  The missing part of the coin is a powerful symbol of what Canada would be if a significant part of its important symbols were missing.  The endangered animal would cease to exist, hence its cutout brings that point home.

This makes the point, but is uniquely done with a coin that uses a new, innovative design technique.  This brings about two problems that the Royal Canadian Mint had to overcome.  First, the coins in the series had to be the same size, but the second requirement is the coins need to have a consistent weight.  Since the metallic content could not be varied the cutouts had to be the same area, a difficult enough task.  The shapes are the shapes of animals, so making the cutouts have the same area is not easy.  The animals themselves are not the same size, so the background needs to be adjusted in such a way that the animals appear to be the same size.
